STUDIO + PRACTICE

We offer a full design service from inside to out, working from landscape to lifestyle...

HILLS + CO. was founded in 2015 by husband and wife, Scott and Sophie HIlls, with the studio based in the depths of the Wye Valley AONB.

Our client base is predominantly based in Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire, The Cotswolds, Herefordshire and Oxfordshire.

We are an RIBA Chartered Practice and provide a full design and management architectural and interiors service, in accordance with RIBA Work Stages. Working with our clients we set out with the objective to be creative, imaginative, and sensitive to realise beautiful spaces and buildings from concept to completion.

Anchor 1

Architecture and Interior Design for us, is an integrated and symbiotic relationship, however there are occasions where the output of each is independent to one another or variable depending on the project. The process for both is similar, with expected outputs at each stage. See below for a fuller explanation of how this works:

ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES

We offer a full design service from concept to completion following RIBA Plan of Work Stages. The image examples above highlight the types of developed output expected during the design and construction of a project.

We offer all new clients a free initial consultation to see how we can help.

what to expect...

RIBA STAGE 0 STRATEGIC DEFINITION

This first stage identifies the scope of work required, and makes a plan for taking a project forward.

RIBA STAGE 1 PREPARATION + BRIEF

Following our initial conversations and any measured surveys required, the project brief is developed which will include the design ambitions for spatial, material and environmental considerations.

RIBA STAGE 2 CONCEPT DESIGN

Here we produce the first concepts in response to the project brief, ambitions and site. If required, it is at this stage we make a pre application submission to the local authority. We begin the CONCEPT DESIGN for interior design (see right)

RIBA STAGE 3 DEVELOPED DESIGN

By the end of this stage the planning application will be submitted following structural and cost analysis. Within this stage we refine the DEVELOPED DESIGN for interior finishes (see right).

RIBA STAGE 4 TECHNICAL DESIGN

Following successful approval, planning drawings will be developed into production information for tender. This includes details, specification and TECHNICAL DESIGN of interior finishes (see right). A submission for Building Regulations approval will be sought and we assist in the selection of a main contractor.

RIBA STAGE 5 CONSTRUCTION

Once on site we administer the building contract and monitor the works against the drawings and specification.

RIBA STAGE 6 HANDOVER + CLOSE OUT

This stage completes the project with a final certificate and a full set of 'As-constructed' information.
