A new build, low energy, single storey replacement dwelling, on a rural site in Clements End, near Coleford.
The new build proposal utilises the flat area of the landscape, located just south of the existing dilapidated structure it replaces, and on the site of a former outbuilding. The form is conceived as a single, simple volume of accomodation on one level to suit the age and lifestyle of the owner, that is orientated on a east-west axis. This orientation allows for an obvious primary access point with a covered entrance to the rear (and nearest the site entrance), with the private southern aspect opening up to the view. A covered, south facing terrace running the length of the house, protects overheating in the summer and takes advantage of solar gain from the low sun angles in the winter months.
As part of the landscape strategy, a new wildlife pond is to be created to the south of the site where the land formation follows a natural low point. This is intended to enhance the wildlife potential and provide a net biodivesrsity gain for the site.
