SUN COTTAGE

A ground floor refurbishment and double extension, to an existing rendered house in the Wye Valley.

As with many older rural houses, built for a different place and time, the layouts often do not fit our modern way of living. As such a certain amount of unpicking of structural work is often required to open up and carefully control a better flow to suit our tastes.

The concept for Sun Cottage is to remodel the cramped entry sequence to allow for a defined and dedicated hallway, utility and WC. This leads onto an open plan kitchen, dining and family area, taking advantage of the rear private garden aspect, by opening up and connecting the external space.

The new entrance is a small, timber clad, flat roof addition with angled walls providing bench seating and momentary cover from the elements. The rear extension is a sleek modern form, running across the entire elevation of the existing house, unifying the proposal and offering a covered terrace and external store.
